These are the games that were played on Friday, January 14.

The early game had another one of those "playoff game" type of atmospheres. The Hawks were able to hold off the Crusaders by beating them 2-1. Dave VanOostveen scored both goals for the Hawks, while Mike Ward once again stood on his head in net for the Hawks. He is one of the co-winners of the Player of the Week.

The Omegas showed their muscle in the middle game by beating the Cougars 8-0. Case Zylstra earned the shut-out for the Omegas. Jeff VanderSlagt scored twice in the Omegas' win.

The late game saw the Flyers beat the Stars 6-4. For the second consecutive week, Kev Karesen scored a hat-trick for the Flyers. He added two assists and is the other co-winner of the Player of the Week. Darryl Poort also scored twice for the Flyers, including the game winner with two minutes left in the third.

Week 12

These are the games that were played on Friday, January 7.

In the early game, the Flyers showed no mercy on first time Cougars' goaltender David Noorloos. The Flyers won the game 11-4. The Cougars kept it a close game until mid-way through the third period. At this point, with the score 5-4, the Flyers opened up the flood-gates. Kev Karelsen led the way for the Flyers by scoring a hat-trick and adding three assists. He is this week's Player of the Week.

The middle game saw a battle of two struggling teams. The Stars were able to end their slump by beating the Crusaders in a tight 4-3 game. Greg Wierenga scored a hat-trick in the Stars win, while Curt Moesker got an assist on all four stars' goals.

The late game was a battle of two hot teams. The Omegas continued their winning ways by beating the Hawks 3-1. Karsten Berg of the Omegas scored his first two goals in our league.

Ejections & Misconducts

Posted Thu Dec 30, 2010 - 03:14 PM

Corey Moesker of the Stars was ejected from the November 26 game between the Stars & Flyers because he received three minor penalties. This was the first time that this has occurred for Corey this season, so he was okay to play in the game the following week.

Jason Mills of the Hawks & Darryl Poort of the Flyers each received a "10 minute" misconduct in the game between their teams on December 17. This was the first "10 minute" misconduct for both of these guys this season, so they are both okay to play their next games on January 7.

Week 11

Posted Thu Dec 30, 2010 - 03:05 PM

These are the games that were played on December 17.

In the early game, the Omegas beat the Crusaders 5-3. Jordan DeBoer scored twice in the Crusaders' loss. Sid VanReenen, of the Omegas scored his first goal of the season, which turned out to be the game winner. Lance Ross scored a goal and added two assists for the Omegas.

The middle game saw the Hawks continue their hot streak by beating the Flyers 2-0. This win puts the Hawks ahead of the Flyers in the standings. The Hawks are now in second and the Flyers sit in third. For the second consecutive week, we'll give Mike Ward the nod for Player of the Week with his shut-out.

The late game also saw some jostling in the standings with the Cougars beating the Stars 6-3. The win gives the Cougars 8 points on the season, which ties them with the Stars. The Cougars actually are currently seeded ahead of the Stars because of more wins.

So, at the Christmas break, the standings are still very close.
The Omegas are comfortably in first place with 18 points. The other five teams are only separated by five points in the standings. The Hawks sit in second with 13 points, but the Flyers are only one point behind them with 12 points. The Crusaders are just two points behind the Flyers with 10 points, while the Cougars & Stars are only two points behind the Crusaders with 8 points each.
We've played 33 games in our season so far, and only five of these games had a goal differential of more than three. That's pretty good!

Every game the rest of the season should prove to be critical of which four teams make the playoffs.
