Everyone seemed to get their legs back by Week 2 because we ended up with three high scoring games.
In the early game, the Hawks responded from a loss in last week's game with a big 8-4 win over the Omegas.
The Omegas held a 3-2 lead going in to the second period, but the Hawks took the game over by scoring four goals in the second period. With a 6-4 lead going in to the third, the Hawks added two more to seal the deal. Dave VanOostveen led the way for the Hawks with a five point performance and earned the Player of the Game honours.
This was the first loss suffered by the Omegas since January 27 last season.
The Ice Dogs are the only remaining unbeaten team after week 2 with a 8-2 win over the Cattle Barons in the middle game. After a pretty even first period, the Ice Dogs exploded to a 5-2 lead by the end of the second period and added three more in the third. Joe & Jordan DeBoer will share the Player of the Game honours with each of them scoring a hat-trick and adding an assist. Wayne Gretz...er...DeBoer gets honourable mention for scoring twice in his first game back in our league since January 3, 2003. This was the first time that he scored a goal in our league since October 25, 2002. Believe me.... I checked.
The Stars remain the only team without a win so far this season with a 7-5 loss to the Flyers in the late game. The game seemed pretty even for the most part, and the Flyers found themselves leading 3-2 going in to the third period. That's when things got a little exciting. With the Flyers scoring three quick goals early in the third and holding a 6-2 lead, the Stars looked like they were out of it. The Stars then started the rally by scoring three goals of their own to come within one goal. The Flyers put a stop to it with Joel VanVeller's hat-trick goal with two minutes to go in the third. This goal proved to be the insurance goal for the Flyers. Joel & Kev Karelsen will share the Player of the Game honours with each of them scoring a hat-trick in the game.
