As most of you are aware by now, Brandon "Chooch" Wilpstra suffered a severe leg injury during the game this past Friday night between the Albinos & Cattle Barons. It was an accident that was not anybody's fault. He was skating towards the boards on the end by the Zamboni doors and either lost an edge or caught an edge about 10 - 15 feet away from the boards. He slid heavily into the boards feet first. Brandon knew immediately that he had injured his leg, but we did not know to what extent. We immediately called 911 and an ambulance was there in short time to take him to the hospital. Later we found out that he had suffered a broken left femur. Obviously, Brandon had a very long and painful night at the hospital. He had surgery on Saturday morning that seemed to go very well. As of Wednesday evening, he was still in the hospital, but he may be able to go back home by the weekend. He is in good spirits, but knows that he will have a long road to recovery. He's pretty determined to get better as soon as he can. Let's remember to keep Brandon & Tanya (and family) in our prayers to ask God to help them through this tough time in their lives. I also want to say thank you to everyone that was at the rink when this happened. Everyone stayed calm and took care of the situation probably about as good as it could have gone. Players on both teams, the referees, arena staff, and fans at the game all acted swiftly, efficiently and professionally.
I just wanted to say thank-you to all the players that participated in last week's games. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the "play nice" request that I had asked for, but I very much appreciated it. We had a grand total of seven minor penalties called throughout the entire evening (all six teams included). That's awesome! Let's keep this trend going into the new year. :)
Since tomorrow night's games (December 23) are right before Christmas, I would really appreciate it if everyone could please be extra careful to behave themselves in the games. I don't want to have to spend my Christmas sorting out suspensions, etc.
As Spongebob says: "Don't be a jerk....... It's Christmas!" Legal disclaimer: The above quote was not in any way meant to offend anyone who has ever been or ever will be suspended from League play.
Kevin Kraayenbrink & Jeff VanderSlagt (both of the Omegas) were each handed three minor penalties in their game against the Ice Dogs last week (December 16th). Both of these players were ejected from the game when they received their third penalty. This was the first time that this has occurred for either player this season, so they are both okay to play in the next game this week (December 23rd).
