Semi-Finals - Game 1

Posted Sat Mar 18, 2017 - 06:20 PM

In the first game between the Omegas & Albinos on Friday, March 10th, the Omegas dominated and won the game 8-2.

Game 1 of the other series, between the Flyers & Hawks, was a dead-heat. Both teams had plenty of chances, but the goalies stood tall. The game was scoreless until 1:31 to go in the third period. Ryan Tamming was the hero in this one by scoring the big goal. The Hawks added an empty netter to take game one 2-0.

In the game between the Omegas & Albinos, Corey Moesker was given a major penalty for cross checking. This was actually Corey's second "major" penalty of the season, so he was suspended for five games.
Note: Corey served the first game of this suspension on Saturday, March 11th, so he will need to sit out the first four games of next season to serve the remainder of this suspension.

Regular Season Wrap-Up

Posted Sat Mar 18, 2017 - 06:10 PM

Hello Everyone,

A lot has transpired over the past few weeks, so I had very little time to give everyone an update on the wrapping up of the regular season.

On the last night of the regular season (March 3rd), we had four players that reached 30 minutes in accumulated penalty minutes for the season. These players were:
Andrew Noorloos - Cattle Barons
Jordan DeBoer - Ice Dogs
Devon DeBoer - Ice Dogs
Aaron Boelens - Ice Dogs
All four of these players have been suspended from playing in the first game of next season for reaching 30 penalty minutes.

In the late game of March 3rd, the Ice Dogs used an illegal player who was not on any team's roster. For doing so, the Ice Dogs lost the game by forfeit, giving the Flyers the win by forfeit. Goals & assists will not be counted for the Ice Dogs in this game because of the forfeit, however games played & penalty minutes were still counted (as they always have been in past forfeited games).

On top of reaching the 30 minute mark in accumulated penalty minutes for the season, Jordan DeBoer was also handed two "10 minute " misconducts in this game. These were actually Jordan's second & third "10 minute" misconducts this season.
Because he got the second "10 minute" misconduct, he has been suspended for one additional game.
Because he got the third "10 minute" misconduct, he has been suspended for another five games on top of the other suspensions that he already got.
Long story short - Jordan will sit out the first seven games of next season.

Suspension

Posted Mon Feb 06, 2017 - 09:55 PM

Jason Hotke of the Albinos has been suspended for two games due to a dangerous play that caused Devon DeBoer (Ice Dogs) to suffer a broken jaw and a concussion. Jason is okay to return to play on February 24th.

See you all on Friday night!

Chooch

Posted Thu Jan 12, 2017 - 06:23 PM

As most of you are aware by now, Brandon "Chooch" Wilpstra suffered a severe leg injury during the game this past Friday night between the Albinos & Cattle Barons. It was an accident that was not anybody's fault.

He was skating towards the boards on the end by the Zamboni doors and either lost an edge or caught an edge about 10 - 15 feet away from the boards. He slid heavily into the boards feet first. Brandon knew immediately that he had injured his leg, but we did not know to what extent. We immediately called 911 and an ambulance was there in short time to take him to the hospital. Later we found out that he had suffered a broken left femur.

Obviously, Brandon had a very long and painful night at the hospital. He had surgery on Saturday morning that seemed to go very well. As of Wednesday evening, he was still in the hospital, but he may be able to go back home by the weekend. He is in good spirits, but knows that he will have a long road to recovery. He's pretty determined to get better as soon as he can.

Let's remember to keep Brandon & Tanya (and family) in our prayers to ask God to help them through this tough time in their lives.

I also want to say thank you to everyone that was at the rink when this happened. Everyone stayed calm and took care of the situation probably about as good as it could have gone. Players on both teams, the referees, arena staff, and fans at the game all acted swiftly, efficiently and professionally.
