Well folks - In case you haven't already heard - she's all over. Congratulations goes out to the Hawks who are the 2016-17 League Champions! They swept the finals series against the top seeded Omegas.

Since I dubbed Game 1 of this series as "a great playoff hockey game", then I would have to say that Game 2 should be considered as "a classic playoff hockey game".

The Omegas came flying out the gates in Game 2, and held a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Karsten Berg & Luke VanReenen.
Mid-way through the second period, Dave Vanoostveen scored for the Hawks to cut the lead in half. However, this thrill was short lived, because one minute later Luke VanReenen scored his second tally of the game to extend the Omegas' lead to 3-1.
The score stayed this way until the mid-point of the third period. That's when Calvin Pelleboer scored for the Hawks to make the score 3-2 in favour of the Omegas. Three minutes later, the Hawks completed the comeback with a beauty short-handed goal by Dave Vanoostveen.
At this point, the goalies put on a clinic. One "old-school" save by Kyle Scott (filling in as the Omegas' goalie) was probably one of the best big-moment saves that I've seen in a while.
Fittingly, this game went to a sudden-death 10 minute overtime, where each team had chances, but were not able to finish it off. This meant that we needed to solve the game in a best-of-five shoot-out.

The Hawks were the "home team" for this particular game, and they chose to shoot second in the shootout. Here is how the shoot-out transpired:
Round 1: The goaltenders stood tall and made saves on both teams' first shooters.
Round 2: The Omegas took the lead in the second round with a goal by Karsten Berg.
Round 3: The Hawks tied it up again with a goal by Derek Barneveld.
Round 4: Dan Feenstra scored for the Hawks to take a 2-1 lead in the shootout.
Round 5: Mike Ward made the save on the Omegas' fifth shooter to clinch the win, the series, and the Championship.

Like I said earlier - A CLASSIC!

Game 1 of the Finals series between the Omegas & Hawks was a great playoff hockey game. The teams went scoreless in the first period. Kyle Huizinga was the first one to put the puck in the net, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead early in the second period. Six minutes later Karsten Berg tied it up by scoring for the Omegas. With 4:24 to go in the second period, Dave Vanoostveen scored to give the Hawks the lead again.
When Clint Schenk scored with 12:45 to go in the third, things weren't looking too promising for the Omegas in this tight game. However, with 9:03 to go in the third, Karsten scored again for the Omegas to bring the score to 3-2 in favour of the Hawks.
The rest of the game saw the Omegas pouring it on to score the tying goal, but the Hawks wouldn't have it and they scored an empty-netter to seal the deal.

Game 2 is tonight (Saturday, March 18th at 8:30pm at the Clearwater Arena.
Will the Hawks be able to sweep the mighty Omegas and take home the Championship Trophy tonight? Or will the Omegas come back with a win to extent the series to a third game?

Game 2 of the Hawks-Flyers series was almost as close as Game 1. In this one, the Flyers struck first and held a 1-0 lead going into the second period. The Hawks scored early in the second period to tie it up, and added another goal late in the period to hold a 2-1 lead going into the third. The score stayed 2-1 until late in the third period, when the Hawks sealed the deal with two quick goals.
With this win, the Hawks will play in the finals.

Game 2 of the Omegas-Albinos series was much closer than it was in Game 1. The Albinos held a 2-0 lead early in the second period, but the Omegas came back shortly after by scoring three times within five minutes. The score stayed at 3-2 in favour of the Omegas until half-way through the third period. When the Omegas scored again with nine minutes to go in the third, it kind've felt like that might be it for the Albinos. That feeling was wrong, because the stormed back with two quick goals in the last 2.5 minutes of the period, tying it up at 4-4.
Fittingly, the game went to overtime. After four minutes of exciting end-to-end overtime hockey was played, the Omegas eventually scored the game winner to take the series and earn a spot against the Hawks in the Finals.

In the first game between the Omegas & Albinos on Friday, March 10th, the Omegas dominated and won the game 8-2.

Game 1 of the other series, between the Flyers & Hawks, was a dead-heat. Both teams had plenty of chances, but the goalies stood tall. The game was scoreless until 1:31 to go in the third period. Ryan Tamming was the hero in this one by scoring the big goal. The Hawks added an empty netter to take game one 2-0.

In the game between the Omegas & Albinos, Corey Moesker was given a major penalty for cross checking. This was actually Corey's second "major" penalty of the season, so he was suspended for five games.
Note: Corey served the first game of this suspension on Saturday, March 11th, so he will need to sit out the first four games of next season to serve the remainder of this suspension.

A lot has transpired over the past few weeks, so I had very little time to give everyone an update on the wrapping up of the regular season.

On the last night of the regular season (March 3rd), we had four players that reached 30 minutes in accumulated penalty minutes for the season. These players were:
Andrew Noorloos - Cattle Barons
Jordan DeBoer - Ice Dogs
Devon DeBoer - Ice Dogs
Aaron Boelens - Ice Dogs
All four of these players have been suspended from playing in the first game of next season for reaching 30 penalty minutes.

In the late game of March 3rd, the Ice Dogs used an illegal player who was not on any team's roster. For doing so, the Ice Dogs lost the game by forfeit, giving the Flyers the win by forfeit. Goals & assists will not be counted for the Ice Dogs in this game because of the forfeit, however games played & penalty minutes were still counted (as they always have been in past forfeited games).

On top of reaching the 30 minute mark in accumulated penalty minutes for the season, Jordan DeBoer was also handed two "10 minute " misconducts in this game. These were actually Jordan's second & third "10 minute" misconducts this season.
Because he got the second "10 minute" misconduct, he has been suspended for one additional game.
Because he got the third "10 minute" misconduct, he has been suspended for another five games on top of the other suspensions that he already got.
Long story short - Jordan will sit out the first seven games of next season.
