League Meeting

Posted Mon Mar 15, 2010 - 08:22 AM

On Thursday, March 11 the team reps met for the pre-playoff meeting. Here's a few tidbits from that meeting:

Nick Vanderwal of the Crusaders and Matt VanMarum of the Flyers were both approved to play in the playoffs despite not having the minimum eight games. The reason for both of these players was because they had injuries that did not allow them to play for most of the season.

Darryl Poort of the Flyers was approved to return to play now that he has served a suspension of five games.

The Crusaders and Hawks will play the later game (8:30pm) on Saturday, March 20 because some of the Crusaders' players will be in a tournament earlier.

These guys make up two out of the three co-winners of week 19's edition of Player of the Week.

The late game was not pretty for the Stars. The Omegas came away with an 8-0 victory. Lance Ross scored four goals including a beauty on a penalty shot. He is the third co-winner of the player of the week.

Week 17

Posted Mon Feb 22, 2010 - 10:15 AM

This week's early game saw the Hawks beat the Stars 7-2. For the second week in a row, the Hawks' line of Dave VanOostveen and the Huizinga boys had a great game. If you're ever watching a Flyers' game, don't leave until it's over! For the second consecutive week, the Flyers broke the hearts of their opponents by scoring a big goal late in the game. The Cougars looked like they were in control of the game by getting out to an early lead. They were up 3-1 at the end of the first period and 6-3 early on in the third period. The Flyers poured it on in the third period and completed the come-back with a 8-7 victory.
This was a game with a bunch of stand-out performances from both teams. O.J. Deelstra of the Cougars scored twice and added two assists. Dave Vangorkum scored a great end-to-ender for the Cougars, and Derek Bouma did the same for the Flyers. This was one of the two goals that Derek scored along with his four assists. Kev Karelsen scored twice and added four assists, but the Player of the Week honours goes to his dad, Sid Karelsen, who scored a hat-trick, including the game winner with about a minute to go in third. He also got an assist on one of Kev's goals.
