Reminder

Guys, please hand your completed roster sheets to the score-keeper before each game.

I've mentioned the importance of the accuracy of these before, but I'm finding out that they are still being filled out with players that are not actually playing in the game, or that they are not being handed in at all.

Misconducts & Ejections

Posted Wed Jan 06, 2010 - 01:17 PM

In the early game Dave VanOostveen of the Hawks was ejected for receiving three minor penalties. Dave is okay to play this Friday.

Corey Moesker of the Stars also was ejected for receiving three minors. This is the second time this has occured for Corey. If this happens once more this season, he will be suspended for two games.
Corey also was given a "game misconduct". Because this was his second "game misconduct" of this season, he is suspended for the next five games. He will not be eligible to play again until February 26, 2010.

Week 12

Posted Wed Jan 06, 2010 - 01:11 PM

We had some pretty good games in the first week of 2010.

The early game was the first game this season that went to overtime. Dan Feenstra scored in overtime to win the game 3-2 for the Hawks over the Stars. Mike Ward and Risser Wierenga both played great in net for their teams.

Seth Hellinga earned his first shut-out in our league in the Omegas' 2-0 win over the Crusaders in the middle game.

The late game saw the Flyers win 8-5 over the Cougars. The Cougars started out the game by scoring three quick goals in the first few minutes of the game. However, the lead was short-lived as the Flyers came back to score four consecutive goals by the end of the first period. Jeff Vanderdeen scored twice for the Cougars and added an assist. Kev Karelsen had two goals and two assists for the Flyers, but this week's Player of the Week honours goes to Matt Kreeft of the Flyers who got a hat-trick and added three assists.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year everyone!

Week 11

Posted Tue Dec 22, 2009 - 01:25 PM

This week's games were all good games that were, for the most part, very close.

The Crusaders were able to hold on to a 3-2 victory over the Cougars in the early game. Brett DeBoer scored a short-handed goal in the second period, which ended up being the game winner.

In the middle game, the Flyers held on to a 6-4 win over the Stars. The Flyers poured on the shots in the first half of the game, but were unable to beat Risser until halfway through the second period. After scoring this goal, the Flyers built up a 5-1 lead that stood up until halfway into the third. At this point, the Stars found their scoring by getting three goals and making it a 5-4 game. The Flyers scored into the empty net to seal the deal. Tyler Poort scored twice for the Stars, while Kev Karelsen scored a hat-trick for the Flyers and earns this week's Player of the Week honours.

The late game was a very close game until the Omegas scored four times in the third period on their way to a 5-2 win over the Hawks. Ian VanReenen scored the first goal in the game, which was his first goal in our league. I've got to say that I knew that it wouldn't be long before he scored, because my ankle still hurts from one of his shots from a couple weeks ago.

The penalties are way down from the pace we were setting earlier on in the season. I think that the referees have a noticed a difference in our attitudes towards them and they have responded by giving us more respect. It has been showing on our game sheets. I'm proud of the way we have policed ourselves in this matter. Let's keep it up!

Oh yes, one thing that I would like to see change in the new year is the number of times that the Player of the Week ends up being somebody who played in the game against the Stars. Smarten up!
