Misconducts

Posted Mon Nov 28, 2011 - 12:59 PM

Kyle Huizinga of the Hawks & Brandon Wilpstra of the Stars each received a "10 minute" misconduct in the middle game. This was the first "10 minute" misconduct for each of these guys this season, so they are both okay to play in their next games. If either one of these guys receives another "10 minute" misconduct this season, he will be suspended for one game.

Week 8

The Cougars looked in control in the first period of the early game against the Flyers, and took a 2-0 lead going in to the second period. That's when the Flyers took over. With six goals in the second period, the Flyers were on their way to a 10-5 victory over the Cougars. O.J. Deelstra scored twice in the loss for the Cougars, while his teammate, Jeff Vanderdeen scored a hat-trick. Chris Sipkens assisted on all three of Jeff's goals. It was a multiple night for a lot of the Flyers. Matt Kreeft assisted on three goals, while Darryl Poort got four assists. Kev Karelsen & Dan VanReenen each scored twice according to the scoresheet, but I'm told by a reliable source that they each actually scored hat-tricks. It seems the benefitor of the mistakes was Joel VanVeller who (according to the scoresheet) scored four goals and got three assists. Even though the accuracy of the goals on the scoresheet is in question, I'm still pretty sure that Joel assisted on the goals that were written down as his goals, so we'll still give him the honours for the Player of the Week. I don't think his teammates will mind.

The middle game saw the Stars pull off a victory against the Hawks; winning the game 4-2. It was a very close game that could've gone both ways. The game was tied 2-2 going in to the third period. The Stars got two goals in the third period by Greg Wierenga & Dale Moesker to seal the win. Both Greg & Dale's goals in the third were the second of the game for each of them. Dale got an assist on one of Greg's goals, while Greg assisted on both of Dale's.

The late game with the Omegas & IceDogs was a very close game between the league's two hottest teams. The Omegas still remain undefeated by winning the game 4-3. The IceDogs took a 3-2 lead going in to the third, but the Omegas came back with two goals in the third. Karsten Berg yet again led the way for the Omegas by scoring twice including the game winner and assisted on the other two goals.

Misconduct

Corey Moesker of the Stars received a "10 minute" misconduct in the early game. This was the first time this season that he has received a "10 minute" misconduct, so he is okay to play in the next game. If he receives another "10 minute" misconduct this season, he will be suspended for one game.

Week 7

The Omegas proved too powerful for the Stars in the early game. The Omegas cruised to an 8-1 win. Lance Ross, Kalen Hellinga, & Karsten Berg all registered three points each in the victory. Jeff VanderSlagt scored twice as well.

After losing their first three games of the season, the Ice Dogs have turned their season around with their fourth consecutive win. They did this by beating the Flyers 5-3 in the middle game. Steve DeBoer came out of "retirement" and scored in the first minute of the game for the Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs continued the pressure and found themselves with a 4-0 lead going into the first intermission. The Flyers made a game of it by scoring three consecutive goals, but the Ice Dogs sealed the win with another goal late in the third period. Joe & Jordan DeBoer each had three point games for the Ice Dogs. Darryl Poort scored three points in the Flyers' loss.

The Cougars continue to show the other teams that they cannot be taken lightly, by beating the Hawks 5-1 in the late game. Cougars goaltender, Shane Korvemaker, was not particularly busy, but he made some great saves & was solid when he needed to be. We'll give him the nod for the Player of the Week. Billy Sipkens scored three points in the Cougars' win.

Hats off to Risser, who for as far as I know, was the first goalie in our league's history to play all three games. It was a pretty rough night for him, but to be fair, he did not have much help (at least not in the first game). Undoubtedly, he slept well that night.

Warm Ups

Posted Tue Nov 15, 2011 - 01:34 PM

We will need to trim down our warm-ups a bit more to be able to fit in the games. The main thing is that we need to make sure that we are ready to go on the ice as soon as the zamboni is off the ice.
Last week two of our games went to overtime and we went past midnight. The arena staff and the referees were willing to work with it, but we need to make sure that we are not pushing the issue by delaying our games by not being ready to go.
