Week 12

Posted Tue Dec 23, 2014 - 07:36 PM

The early game saw the Omegas beat the Ice Dogs 4-3.
The Omegas had control of the first half of the game. They found themselves up 3-0 in the first minute of the second period. The Ice Dogs scored a couple of quick goals in the second period to get back in the game, but were unable to complete the come-back.
Glen Angle, scored his first goal in our league, which turned out to be the game winning goal for the Omegas. He is the Player of the Game.

Christmas came early for the Hawks in the middle game. They found themselves shooting against a "siv" of a Stars goaltender (that's right - yours truly strapped on the goalie pads for the first time in twenty years) and beat the Stars 9-6.
The Stars got off to a quick 2-0 lead before the Hawks got their first goal. By the end of the first, the score was 3-2 for the Stars. The Hawks scored four unanswered goals in the second period and held a 6-3 lead going into the third. In the third period, the Stars showed signs of making a comeback, but the Hawks sealed the deal with an empty netter.
Chris Helps & Dave Vanoostveen will share the Player of the Game honours. Each of these players scored four goals for their respective teams.

The late game saw the Cattle Barons lose their third game in a row. The Flyers beat them 5-2.
The Flyers scored the only goal of the first period. By the end of the second period, the Flyers were up 4-1. The teams each scored one more goal in the third period, giving the Flyers a 5-2 victory.
Flyers spare goaltender, Kyle Scott, was excellent in his first game in our league. He will share the Player of the Game honours with Steve Capelle. Steve scored twice for the Flyers.
Kev Karelsen & Ryan Cross deserve honourable mention. They each had three points for the Flyers.

Busy Weekend

Posted Wed Dec 17, 2014 - 09:36 PM

Along with playing our regular three games this Friday (December 19) night, the Flyers & Hawks will be playing their "make-up" game on Saturday night.
As a reminder to everyone, the make-up game will be played on Saturday, December 20th at 8:00pm at the Point Edward Arena.

As you are all aware, this is also the weekend before Christmas, so I would really appreciate it if everyone could put in an extra effort to behave themselves for this weekends' games. I don't want to have to be spending my Christmas time sorting through all kinds of suspensions, drama, etc.
The past few seasons, I've made this request, and its been great. Everyone has really respected my request. In the past its been not so nice. I've had to spend far too much of my Christmas time worrying about solving issues, and not enough time spent with my family and enjoying this wonderful season of the celebration of the birth of our Saviour.

Ejections & Suspensions

Posted Wed Dec 17, 2014 - 09:17 PM

Matt Kreeft, of the Flyers, received three minor penalties in the early game and was ejected from the game for doing so. This is the second time that this has occurred for Matt this season. He is okay to play in the next game, but if this occurs a third time for Matt, he will be suspended for two games.

In the late game, Corey Moesker, of the Stars, was given a game misconduct for receiving a "major" penalty. In doing so, Corey has been suspended for one game. In the game, Corey also passed the 30 minute mark in penalties for this season. For this, he has been suspended for one more game. He will be okay to return to play on January 9th.

Week 11

This is the summary for the games that were played on December 12th. (that's right - I'm actually caught up!)

The early game between the the Flyers & Omegas was another great game. The Omegas came away with a 5-4 overtime victory in this one.
The teams went scoreless through the first period. The Omegas went into the third period up 3-2. They spread their lead to 4-2 early in the third, and it looked like they were going to cruise to victory.
A late penalty proved costly for the Omegas, as the Flyers scored to make it 4-3 with just over a minute to go in the third. This sparked the Flyers, and they scored another goal with eleven seconds to go to tie it up at 4-4.
In overtime, Joe VanReenen scored to give the Omegas the win.
Jeff VanderSlagt is the Player of the Game in this one. He scored a hat-trick for the Omegas.

In the middle game, the Ice Dogs beat the Hawks 5-1.
This game also went scoreless in the first, but the Ice Dogs took control in the second period. They went up 3-0 going into the third. The Hawks got their only goal half-way through the third, but the Ice Dogs sealed the deal with two more goals late in the third.
Duncan Vanderwal was outstanding in net for the Ice Dogs, and is the Player of the Game. Al Vanderveen scored twice for the Ice Dogs, and Bubs (Wesley Boelens) had another good game, getting three assists.

The late game between the Stars & Cattle Barons was a match-up of the two top teams in the standings. This time, the Stars came away with a 4-1 win.
The Cattle Barons got on the scoreboard first with the only goal of the first period. They held that 1-0 lead until the Stars finally answered back in the last few minutes of the second period.
The Stars scored three more goals in the third period to seal the deal.
Dave Noorloos played another solid game in net for the Stars, but we'll give the Player of the Game to Brandon Wilpstra. "Chooch" had two goals and an assist for the Stars.
