Misconducts & Ejections

Posted Mon Nov 03, 2014 - 08:34 PM

Andrew Noorloos of the Cattle Barons & Andrew Melville of the IceDogs were each given a "10 minute" misconduct in the middle game. This is the first "10 minute" misconduct for either of these players this season, so they are both okay to play in their next games.

John Hotke of the Stars received three minor penalties in the game against the Flyers and was ejected for doing so. This is the first time that this has occurred for John this season, so he is okay to play in the next game.

Scotty Maidmen of the Stars was given a game misconduct for receiving a" knee-ing major" penalty. He is suspended for one game. He will not be allowed to play again until November 14, 2014.

Week 5

Posted Mon Nov 03, 2014 - 08:06 PM

Can you believe that we're already done one round of the regular season?

The early game was a match up of the two most recent league champions. The Hawks prevailed in this one; squeaking out a 5-3 win over the Omegas.
The Omegas got the lone goal in the first. They looked good going into the third period up 3-1.
The Hawks turned it on in the third scoring three goals, before adding an empty net goal that just beat the final buzzer.
In his first game in our league, Zack Vanderwal sure made a good first impression. He scored two goals and an assist for the Hawks, and is the Player of the Game.

In the middle game, the IceDogs beat the Cattle Barons 7-3.
The IceDogs got off to a quick start, and found themselves up 4-1 after the first period. The rest of the game was pretty even, but the damage was done.
Joe Deboer led the way for the IceDogs with three points and is the Player of the Game.

The Flyers scored a huge comeback win in the late game over the Stars; taking it 7-6.
The Stars looked to be in control of it most of the way through. They were up 4-2 after the first period, and 6-4 after two periods.
After scoring a goal with seven minutes to go in the third, the Flyers found themselves back in it. They took advantage of a late game major penalty by the Stars and tied it up with 36 seconds to go in the period. Since it was a major penalty, they continued with the powerplay, and stunned the Stars by scoring the game winner with only 9 seconds to go.
Chris Helps had another strong game for the Stars, scoring four goals. Mark Groendyk had a four point night for the Flyers, but we'll give the Player of the Game to Joel VanVeller, who scored four goals for the Flyers, including both the tying & game winning goals in the last minute of the game.

I keep saying it, but parity is definitely the theme this season. All six teams are within two points of each other in the standings. What more can you say?

Ejections

Sid VanReenen of the Omegas & Corey Moesker of the Stars each received three minor penalties in the middle game. Both players were ejected for recieving the three minors. This is the first time that this has occurred for both players this season, so they are both okay to play in their next game.

Week 4

Parity, parity, parity!

The Cattle Barons earned their first win of the season, beating the Hawks 7-6 in the early game.
It was a close, back & forth, game the whole way through. The Hawks led 3-2 after the first period, but the Cattle Barons scored four goals in the second period. They took a 6-5 lead into the third period. After each team scored one more goal in the third, the Cattle Barons held on for the win.
Calvin Pelleboer had a three point game for the Hawks. Jeff VanderDeen did likewise for the Cattle Barons, but we'll give the Player of the Game to Andrew Noorloos. The defenseman scored twice to lead the Cattle Barons to victory.

In the middle game, the Omegas handed the Stars their first regulation loss since November 29th of last season. The Omegas took a 2-0 lead after the first period and never looked back. The game ended in a 4-1 Omegas victory.
Steve Metcalfe put in a solid effort in only his second game in net for the Omegas. We'll let Tim Allen & Fred VanReenen Jr. share the Player of the Game honours. Each of them had a three point game for the Omegas.

The late game saw the Flyers earn their first victory of the season by beating the IceDogs 7-3.
The first period was fairly even. The Flyers held a 3-2 lead going into the second. After that, it was all Flyers. They held a 6-3 lead after two, and cruised to victory.
Ryan Cross & Kev Karelsen each had six points and they will share the Player of the Game in this one.
