In the early game, the Flyers clinched a playoff berth by beating the Hawks 7-2.
The Flyers led 2-1 after the first period and stretched their lead to 6-2 after two periods.
Ryan Cross had a three point game for the Flyers. Kev Karelsen had a four point game, but we'll give the Player of the Game to Darryl Poort, who also had a four point game.
It was a tough night for the Omegas. Their goalie was a no-show for the middle game, so they were forced to play the entire game with an empty net. The Cattle Barons took advantage of this and won the game 14-6.
The Cattle Barons scored early and often. They held a 5-2 lead after the first period, and a 10-4 lead after two. They continued the pressure with four more goals in the third.
Kurtis Tamming had two goals for the Omegas, and his team-mate, Zach VanReenen, had a three point game. Obviously, a lot of the Cattle Barons were on the scoresheet quite a bit, but we'll give the Player of the Game to Billy Sipkens. Billy had a goal, but I picked him because he had the most assists in the game, with three.
With the outcome of this game, the Cattle Barons clinched a playoff berth.
The late game saw the Ice Dogs beat the Stars 9-7.
The Ice Dogs got off to a good start, and found themselves up 4-1 mid-way through the second period. The Stars woke up at this point and came back to take a 6-5 lead early in the third. The Ice Dogs refused to give up, and made a comeback of their own by scoring three consecutive goals. The Stars scored one more goal late in the game, but the Ice Dogs held on for the win.
Chris Helps had a six point game for the Stars. Risser Wierenga had five points, and Jason Hotke had four points for the Stars. Chris Pool & Jordan Deboer each had three points for the Ice Dogs, but we'll give the Player of the Game to Matt Tamminga. Matt had four points in the Ice Dogs' victory.
Since the Omegas lost the middle game, the Hawks are the final team to have clinched a playoff berth. This marks the end of an "un-real" streak held by the Omegas. This will be the first time since the 1990-91 season that the Omegas will not be in the playoffs.
It should be known that I am not announcing this fact out of dis-respect, but I wanted everyone to know what an outstanding feat they have accomplished.

The game between the Omegas & Ice Dogs on Friday night got heated, and a handful of incidents came from it. Here they are:
- Sid VanReenen of the Omegas was given a "major" for cross-checking and a game misconduct. Sid was suspended for one game, which was served by not playing in Saturday's game. He is okay to play again this Friday (Feb.13).
- Matt DeBoer received three minors in the game and was ejected for doing so. This is the first time that this has occurred for Matt this season, so he was not suspended for it.
- Matt DeBoer also received a "10 minute" misconduct in the game. This was also the first time this season that Matt received a "10 minute" misconduct, so he was not suspended for this either.
- Jordan Deboer & Joe VanReenen were each given a "10 minute" misconduct late in the game. This was the first time that this has occurred for both of these players this season, so neither of them were suspended for it.
- Jordan Deboer did, however, pass the 30 minute mark in penalties for the season, so he was suspended for one game. Jordan served this suspension by not playing in Saturday's game. He is okay to play again this Friday (Feb.13).
- Chad VanReenen of the Omegas also passed the 30 minute mark in this game, so he was also suspended for one game. Chad served this suspension by not playing in Saturday's game. He is okay to play again this Friday (Feb.13).
- Matt DeBoer also passed the 30 minute mark in penalties during the game on Friday, but I messed up and didn't notice this until after Saturday's game. Matt will sit out this Friday's (Feb.13) game to make up for it. He is okay to play again on Friday, February 20.
A few more issues came from the games that were played on Saturday. Here they are:
- Joe VanReenen of the Omegas passed the 30 minute mark in penalties and has been suspended for one game. He cannot play this Friday (Feb.13), but he is okay to play again on Friday, February 20.
- Andrew Melville of the Ice Dogs received a "10 minute" misconduct. This was the second time this season that this has occurred for Andrew, so he has been suspended for one game (Feb.13). He is okay to play again on Friday, February 20.

This is the summary for the games that were played at the Clearwater Arena on Saturday, February 7th:
In the early game, the Hawks beat the Flyers 5-3.
The Flyers looked good early, and held a 2-0 after the first period. The Hawks answered in the second and the teams went into the third all tied up at 2-2. The Hawks scored early in the third, and after each team scored one more later in the period, the Hawks sealed the deal with an empty netter.
For the second night in a row, Dave Vanoostveen is the Player of the Game. In this game, he had three points for the Hawks.
The Cattle Barons made it a temporary four-way tie for first in the standings when they beat the Omegas 5-1 in the middle game.
They led 3-0 after the first period, and 4-0 after two.
O.J. Deelstra had a three point game for the Cattle Barons, but we'll give the Player of the Game to Steve Minten. Once again, Steve played another solid game in net for the Cattle Barons.
For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the Stars have clinched themselves a playoff berth. They did this by beating the Ice Dogs 9-3 in the late game.
The Stars took control of the game early and held a 4-1 lead after the first. The Ice Dogs settled the game down for a while after that, but the Stars sealed the victory with a strong third period.
We'll have five players on the Stars share the Player of the Game. Chris Helps, Greg Wierenga, Brandon Wilpstra, Jeff Sit, and Dale Moesker all had a great game for the Stars. I know that's kind've "cheaping out" by picking them all. All I can say is "talk to the hand".

This is the summary for the games that were played on Friday, February 6th:
The early game saw the Hawks beat the Stars 5-4 in overtime.
The Hawks got off to a good start and held a 3-1 lead after the first period. The Stars came back in the second and the teams went into the third period tied up at 3-3. The third period went scoreless until the Stars scored what looked like might be the game winner with 2:20 to go in the third. This feeling was short lived because the Hawks scored 22 seconds later to send the game to overtime, where they scored the game winner.
Once again, Chris Helps led the Stars in scoring. He scored three goals and an assist in the game. However, we'll give the Player of the Game to Dave Vanoostveen. Dave scored the tying goal and the game winner in overtime for the Hawks. Both goals were beauties.
The middle game between the Omegas & Ice Dogs saw the Omegas win it 3-0.
The Omegas scored one goal in each period. Lance Ross had three points for the Omegas, but the Player of the Game is Mike Ward. Filling in as a substitute goalie for the Omegas, Mike earned the very first shut-out of the season for any of our league's goalies.
In the late game, the Flyers came away with a 7-5 win over the Cattle Barons.
This was a pretty even game the whole way through. The teams were tied 2-2 after the first period. The Flyers held a 5-4 lead after two. After each team scored one more in the third, another goal by the Flyers with just over a minute to go sealed their victory.
Matt VanMarum is the Player of the Game in this one. He had a five point game for the Flyers.
