Ejections

Posted Mon Oct 26, 2015 - 10:37 PM

In the early game between the Stars & Ice Dogs, Aaron Boelens, of the Ice Dogs was ejected from the game for receiving three minor penalties. This was the first time that this has occurred for Aaron this season, so he is okay to play in the next game this Friday.

I neglected to mention a few weeks ago that in the game between the Stars & Omegas that was played on Friday, October 9th, Glen Angle (of the Omegas) was ejected from the game for receiving three minor penalties. Actually he had four minors (two double minors) in the game. This was the first time that this occurred for Glen this season, so he was not suspended for this.
The incident that occurred when Glen got his second double minor was reviewed by the league to determine if any further suspension was necessary, but the league reps voted that no further action was needed. However Glen has been put on probation for the rest of the season and has been warned that a five game suspension was considered for his actions.

The early game saw the Stars beat the Ice Dogs 8-2.
Jason Hotke had three points for the Stars, while team-mate, Chris Helps had five points. We'll give the nod for the Player of the Game to Greg Wierenga. Greg had a hat-trick for the Stars plus added an assist.

The Hawks beat the Omegas 9-2 in the middle game.
Rob Nutma, Ryan Tamming, & Calvin Pelleboer each had three points for the Hawks. Dave Vanoostveen had a seven point game, but the Player of the Game is Kyle Huizinga. Kyle had a big eight point game.

The late game was the closest game of the night. The Flyers won this one 4-2 over the Cattle Barons.
We'll give the Player of the Game honours to defenseman, Mark Groendyk, who had two assists in the Flyers' win.

Week 3

This is the summary for the games that were played on Friday, October 16th:

The early game was a battle between the two remaining win-less teams this season. The Omegas squeaked out a 4-2 win over the Cattle Barons.
Jonny Wagenaar is the Player of the Game in this one. He scored twice for the Omegas, including the game winner.

In the middle game, the Stars continued in their winning ways by beating the Flyers with a close 3-2 margin.
We'll let the goaltenders share the Player of the Game in this one. Kyle Scott, of the Flyers, and Codey Wierenga, of the Stars, (playing in his first game in our league) both did well to hold off the potent offense from the opposing teams.

This was a night of close games, and the late game was no different. This one saw the first tie game of our season. The Hawks & Ice Dogs had to settle for a 4-4 tie after a hard fought battle.
Former Hawk, Aaron Boelens, is the Player of the Game. He scored twice in the third period against his former mates.

Week 2

Posted Mon Oct 19, 2015 - 07:16 PM

Here is the summary of the games that were played on Friday, October 9th:

The early game of the night saw the Stars beat the Omegas 8-3. This was actually a close game for the most part until the Stars opened it up in the second half of the third.
Kelly Saul & Brandon Wierenga (both of the Stars) each scored their first goal in our league in this game. Curt Moesker, Chris Helps, Brandon Wierenga, & Jeff Sit each had three points for the Stars, but we'll give the Player of the Game to Greg Wierenga. Greg had five points in the Stars' win.

The middle game between the Flyers & Ice Dogs was very similar to the early game. For the most part, the game was pretty close until the Flyers broke loose in the third period and ended up with a 8-3 victory.
Kev Karelsen & Matt VanMarum will share the Player of the Game honours in this one. They each had four points in the Flyers' win.

The late game between the Hawks & Cattle Barons was yet another close game that didn't show it in the final score. The Hawks ended up with a 5-1 win, but the game was scoreless until the last minute of the second period.
Mike Ward was just 29 seconds away from getting the shutout before the Cattle Barons were able to put one past him. Mike will share the Player of the Game with Dave Vanoostveen. Dave had three points for the Hawks.

Week 1

Posted Mon Oct 19, 2015 - 06:56 PM

Well, I'm finally getting a chance to get caught up. Here's the summary from the first week's games that were played on Friday, October 2nd:

The early game was a re-match of the two teams that met in last season's finals. The Hawks did as they did in the playoffs and beat the Flyers by a narrow 4-3 score.
It was a pretty even game all the way through. This game was tough to pick out the Player of the Game, but we'll go with Jordan Nydam, who had a goal and an assist in the Hawks' win.

The middle game of the night saw the Stars beat the Cattle Barons 10-6.
Darren DeGroot had three points for the Cattle Barons. Dale Moesker had five points for the Stars, but the obvious choice for the Player of the Game was Chris Helps. Chris had eight points in the game, including scoring six straight goals for the Stars.

In the late game, the Ice Dogs scored a narrow 4-2 victory over the Omegas. This was a fairly close game until the Ice Dogs scored a last minute empty netter to clinch it.
The two new acquisitions (Aaron Boelens & Devon Deboer) on the Ice Dogs opened the team's scoring for the season. We'll give the nod for the Player of the Game to Devon Deboer, who also added an assist.
