Pre-Season League Meeting

Posted Tue Oct 01, 2013 - 05:12 PM

Last week Thursday (Sept.26) all the team reps had a meeting to prepare for the 2013-14 season. Here are some notes taken from the meeting:

Schedule
The prepared schedule was approved and can now be found on this website.
A printable copy of the schedule can be found under the "Forms & Files" tab on the left hand side of this page.
League Costs
Cost for the season will be $3600.00 per team.
It is preferred to get four post-dated cheques for $900.00 each.
They should be post dated for: Oct.1, Nov.1, Dec.1, & Jan.1.
Rosters
All the team rosters were approved to start the new season.
Here is the list of new players added this year:
Hawks - Brad Pelleboer
Omegas - Zach Kapteyn, Adam Kapteyn, Steve Zylstra, & Jared Millberry
Stars - Scotty Maidmen & Charlie Heimstra
Flyers - Dustin Bouma
IceDogs - Matt Bork
Cattle Barons - Brad Clark, Brian Haan, & Paul Rutlage
Here is the list of players that moved to a new team this season:
David Noorloos, Darren DeGroot, Jason Hotke, & Chris Helps have all been approved to play for the Stars this season. They were all on the Cattle Barons' roster last season.
Chris Simard has been added to the IceDogs roster, but he was also left on the Stars roster. Whichever of these two teams he decides to play for first is the team that he will need to stay on for the rest of this season. He will be taken off the other team's roster at that point.
The Hawks will need to find out more information on Cody Oliver before he will be approved to play. For now he has not been approved.
The Stars needed to find out more about Charlie Heimstra before he was able to be approved. After investigating, he has been found to be legit & has been approved to play for the Stars.
Rule Changes
The "accumulative penalty" rule has been tweeked for the upcoming season. It was found that the idea behind the rule was a good one, but it needed a little tweeking. Here is how it will go this season:
Any player reaching 30 minutes in penalties will be suspended for one game (same as last year).
Any player reaching 60 minutes in penalties will be suspended for three games.
A player reaching 70 minutes will be suspended for two games.
A player reaching 80 minutes will be suspended for two games, etc.
There will be no suspension for players reaching 40 or 50 minutes this season.
Carried Over Suspensions
It was ruled that even though the "accumulative penalties" rule has been changed for this season, the suspensions carried over from last season will still need to be served. Here is the list of suspensions that have been carried over from last season:
Chris Simard was suspended for a total of five games nearing the end of last season. He has already served two games, but will need to sit out the first three games of this season to complete his suspension. The first game that Chris will be eligible to play is on October 25.
Brandon Wilpstra, Brett DeBoer,, & Duncan Vanderwal all were suspended for two games during the final regular season game of last season. They will need to sit out the first two games of this season. Each of these three players will be eligible to play again on October 18.

Posted Tue Sep 24, 2013 - 10:15 AM

Hello everyone. Summer is now officially over, and its time to start thinking about the upcoming hockey season.
The team reps will be sitting down this Thursday (Sept.26) to sort out the team rosters, approve the schedule, and go over any rule changes, among other things.
Once the schedule has been approved it will be posted on this website. For now, I can tell you that the first games of the 2013-14 season will be played on Friday, October 4.
Once again, we will be playing all of our regular season games at the Point Edward Arena. Also, as it was last season, we have the ice on Friday nights from 7:00pm until 11:00pm.

Here is the schedule for the first night:

7:00pm Hawks vs. Cattle Barons
8:20pm Ice Dogs vs. Omegas
9:40pm Flyers vs. Stars

Finals - Game 3

Posted Sat Mar 30, 2013 - 03:52 PM

Congratulations to the Hawks, who have won their first league championship since 1999, with a 3-1 win over the Cattle Barons in the third and deciding game of the finals.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard first when Dave VanOostveen scored a short-handed goal five minutes into the first period. Jeff Vanderdeen evened it up for the Cattle Barons half-way through the second period. This is the the way the score stayed through two periods, thanks to some outstanding goaltending for both teams. As he has been these whole playoffs, Steve Pastoor was solid in net for the Cattle Barons. On the other end, Risser Wierenga overcame the huge pressure laid on his shoulders in a "fill-in" role as the Hawks' goaltender after Mike Ward's injury in last week's game. He was outstanding in net for the Hawks and was a big part of their win.
In the third period Kyle Huizinga scored two huge goals for the Hawks. These goals stood as the game winning & insurance goals. Kyle gets the nod for the Player of the Game.

Time for some fun facts:
As mentioned earlier, this was the first time that the Hawks have won the League Championship since 1999.
Pat Dam is the only current Hawk that was on that team back in 1999. As a matter of fact, Chris Pool & Wayne DeBoer (both are now with the IceDogs) are the only two other players from the 1999 Hawks team that still play in our league.
Ryan Nutma & Doug Boelens are the only two other current Hawks that have won a past championship. They were both on the Hawks team that won the championship back in 1998. After winning that championship in 1998, both Ryan & Doug left the Hawks to be part of a new team in our league at that time (IceDogs).
See - wasn't that fun?
