Week 4 |
The early game between the IceDogs & Flyers saw the IceDogs head to overtime for the third time in four games this season. The game ended in a 6-6 tie.
The first period was rather quiet, with the Flyers scoring one goal. The second period got a little more eventful. With five goals scored within ten minutes, the IceDogs were up 4-2 going into the third.
The Flyers kept it close, but were still down 6-5 with a couple of minutes to go in the third. They pulled the goalie and got the game tying goal by Matt Kreeft with 1:29 to go.
Kev Karelsen had another three point game for the Flyers. Joe DeBoer did likewise for the IceDogs. Matt DeBoer & Matt Tamminga will share the Player of the Game honours for this one. They each had two goals & an assist for the IceDogs.
Even though the middle game between the Hawks & Stars went right down to the wire, both teams continued their streaks. The Hawks won the game 9-7 and are now 4 & 0 for the season. This loss puts the Stars at 0 & 4.
The Stars got off to a good start and held a 5-2 lead at the half-way point of the second period. You can never count out the Hawks, and the Stars learned this quickly. By the 10 minute mark of the third, the Hawks had scored five consecutive goals to go up 7-5. The Stars made a late game surge, but an empty netter by the Hawks ended it.
The duo of Chris Helps & Jason Hotke once again led the scoring for the Stars. Chris had three points, while Jason tallied four points. The Player of the Game will be shared between the Hawks' duo of Kyle Huizinga & Dave VanOostveen. Each of these guys had five points in the game. Dave had two goals & three assists, while Kyle had three goals & two assists.
The late game between the Omegas & Cattle Barons ended in a 5-3 win for the Omegas. Believe it or not - this was the second lowest total goals scored (8) in a game so far this season. Up to this point, this has not been a very "goaltender friendly" season.
Both teams each scored one goal in the first period, but the Omegas scored four consecutive goals & were up 5-1 early in the third period.
The Cattle Barons mustered a bit of a comeback in the third period, but were not able to come any closer than 5-3.
Billy Sipkens scored twice for the Cattle Barons. We'll give the Player of the Game to Omegas' goaltender, Case Zylstra, who kept it a low scoring game.
